Under The Hearing Aid Council Act of 1968, a Hearing Aid Audiologist practising in the private sector must have passed the Hearing Aid Council examinations and completed 850 hours of post examination training before they can dispense hearing aids. However the Hearing Aid Council is to be abolished and in future entry will be by Foundation Degree.
At present Aston University is the only higher eduction authority that has approval for its Foundation Degree course. De Montfort, Leicester and Anglia Ruskin, Essex have conditional approval.
