Why Join BSHAA?

The British Society of Hearing Aid Audiologists is a Society that represents and promotes the private hearing aid profession in the UK.

BSHAA is committed to professional development and plays an important role in the ever-changing world of consumer care and hearing instrument fitting and provision.

Regular contact is maintained with other appropriate organisations engaged in the wide spectrum of audiological disciplines and consumer affairs including the HAC.

A wide variety of support activities are regularly organised by BSHAA to ensure the membership receive up to date information regarding their profession. Educational support is provided to assist members in keeping up to date with evolving technology and latest developments in the provision of hearing instruments and audiology. The Study Days provide members with the opportunity of acquiring HAC CPDs. The support activities also provide an excellent forum for dispensers to exchange ideas with other audiologists and Registered Hearing Aid Dispensers.

There are many advantages in becoming a BSHAA member and these include:

  • A Quarterly Magazine. BSHAA News includes technical information on new developments and other academic topics. This is sent free of charge to all members.
  • Regular Educational Seminars. These are arranged regionally throughout the year with speakers who are specialists in the many subjects presented.
  • A Programme of Ongoing Education. This enables and requires members to keep up to date with changes in technology and procedural matters associated with hearing aid provision. Qualified Members will be awarded Continuing Units of Education(CUEs).
  • HAC Education Accreditation. BSHAA will apply to the HAC for each of its Education Days to be accredited by the HAC so that they count towards the HAC’s compulsory Continuing Professional Development scheme (CPD).
  • Affordable Education Seminars. BSHAA undertakes to provide on going education at reasonable cost. Members will enjoy discounted delegate rates.
  • A Code of Practice. Members undertake to adhere to the BSHAA Code of Practice that maintains high ethical standards.
  • BSHAA Website. The BSHAA Website is accessed by the public. Qualified Members may be included, free of charge, in the Members’ Directory. This is used by the public to find a dispenser in a particular geographical location. There is also a members’ section.
  • Trainee Membership. Trainees and Students can register as Associate Student Members for a reduced membership fee and will receive a 50% reduction from the membership delegate rates at BSHAA Education Days.
  • Annual General Meeting. This provides an open forum for discussion and questions and includes an educational session from some of the most respected experts in the profession.
  • Fellowship Status. Qualified Members may become Fellows of the Society either by examination or by obtaining the required number of CUEs.
  • Liaison with Members of the Public. The Society offers general advice to the public and refers members of the public to dispensers who are its members. The Society also offers a mediation service between dispenser and client in the event of problems on the supply of hearing instruments that can often prevent the problem from escalating.
  • Professional Designation. Qualified Members may use the affix MSHAA after their name and Fellows may use FSHAA.
  • Participation in BSHAA’s Marketing Initiatives. The Society provides a regular magazine and updates on ways of improving and enhancing your marketing and business profile. You can also access the Marketing Resource pack on the member’s section of the website.
